Botulinum Toxin (Botox) Injections-Therapeutic Application

Using Botulinum Toxin (Botox) for therapeutic reasons in Dentistry is becoming more popular. When we think about Botox, the first thought that comes to mind is often how it's used for cosmetic reasons. However, patients can also take advantage of several therapeutic applications. Two of the most common are; treatment for TMJ pain and Bruxism or teeth grinding

Injectable Botulinum Toxin (Botox) helps block signals from the nerves to the muscle. The injected muscle can no longer contract as forcefully as it typically would after a Botox procedure, which ultimately creates fast relief for muscle tension and pain.

What are the benefits of therapeutic Botox ?

Most patients experience noticeable improvements within 1-2 days after there first session of treatment, although it can take up to a week.

2. Are these Botox injections painful? Dr. Cardenas always ensures her patients are as comfortable as possible our clinical staff will provide you with a cold compress to numb the area, or numbing cream prior to injection . Patients often describe the pain as a prick or sting, usually not uncomfortable.
3. How long will these injections last? Treatment will last 3-4 months. We recommend a follow up visit two weeks after treatment is completed.
