HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET MY DENTAL CLEANING?

Cardenas-Meet-the-Team-Carol

The American Dental Association recommends that you visit your dentist at least twice a year to get a routine examination and cleaning. If you have a history of periodontal disease, you should get your teeth cleaned more often in order to prevent the recurrence of infections or disease.

At Maria Cardenas DMD, We follow the recommendations of the ADA and suggest that you visit our office at least twice a year for your routine dental hygiene and dental health review. Regular dental visits are essential for the maintenance of healthy teeth and gums. And in between those examinations, it’s important that you work to keep your teeth and gums clean and healthy. If you need additional help, we may even suggest more frequent visits

Dental Hygiene

WHAT HAPPENS DURING YOUR DENTAL VISIT?

During your routine dental visit your hygienist will perform a throughout exam. Will evaluate the health of your gums, examine for any plaque (plaque build up) , perform head/neck exam, as well as examine your mouth for any tooth decay, indications of any oral cancer, diabetes, or vitamin deficiencies. Your hygienist will also examine your face, bite, saliva and movement of your lower jaw (TMJ).

Next your dental hygienist will complete a routine prophylaxis (Dental Cleaning). This will include:

  • Checking the health of your teeth and gums
  • Removing any plaque and tartar- Plaque and tartar can build up in a short period of time. If not removed plaque can harden on the teeth and irritate your gums, if not treated this can lead to gum disease.
  • Testing the pH levels in your mouth
  • Polishing your teeth
  • Flossing between your teeth
  • Routine Digital Scan of your mouth and teeth to record and monitor any bite and tooth structure changes in the oral cavity.

At the end of your visit your hygienist will provide you with tips on maintaining a happy healthy smile in between visits.

Dental Questions

ARE DENTAL CLEANINGS COVER BY DENTAL INSURANCE?

Generally speaking, most dental insurances will provide yearly benefits for standard preventive services.

These preventive services will include: two dental cleanings a year with necessary check up Radiographs and a routine dental examination by a Licensed dentist. At Maria Cardenas DMD we will help our patients  identify their benefits in order confirm coverage.
