Born into a family of physicians, Dr. Maria Cardenas was raised with a deep commitment to caring for others and creating meaningful impact. That early influences shaped her professional path, guiding her toward dentistry not just as a clinical pursuit, but as a powerful blend of art, science, and human connection.

After earning her Doctorate of Dental Medicine from Boston University’s Goldman School of Dental Medicine where she received the prestigious Excellence Award. Dr. Cardenas launched a career defined by innovation, precision, and purpose. In her early years, she served as a Clinical Instructor at BU’s Department of Restorative Sciences, where she mentored emerging dentists and honed the foundational philosophies that continue to guide her today. 

In 2015, Dr. Cardenas brought a long-standing vision to life: the creation of a boutique cosmetic dentistry practice in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Her goal was clear—to offer elevated, comprehensive care that was deeply personal and meticulously designed. That same year, her clinic became the first Certified Digital Smile Design (DSD) Clinic in the United States, reflecting her pioneering work in facially guided treatment planning and personalized aesthetic dentistry. At the heart of her practice is a deep commitment to patient education and clarity. Every treatment plan is fully visualized through digital mock-ups and video simulations, allowing patients to understand their proposed outcomes before any clinical work begins. This transparent, collaborative process is key to building trust and delivering life-changing results.

In 2021, Dr. Cardenas fulfilled another dream: the creation of an in-house dental laboratory. Partnering with her
Master Ceramist of over eight years, she designed a fully integrated lab workflow to elevate quality, reduce turnaround times, and ensure seamless communication between doctor, lab, and patient. Fewer than 1–2% of cosmetic dental practices in the U.S. have a Master Ceramist on-site, making this one of the most unique and powerful advantages of care at Maria Cardenas DMD. The lab has become a cornerstone of the practice ensuring exceptional customization, faster refinement, and artistry that aligns perfectly with each patient's vision.

Dr. Cardenas is a specialist in complex restorative and aesthetic cases, including full mouth reconstructions, porcelain veneers, smile makeovers, implant restorations, and Comprehensive cases. Her approach is facially driven, minimally invasive, and guided by both function and beauty—delivering results that are not only beautiful, but built to last.

She is a Certified Master of Digital Smile Design, a founding member of the Boston American Academy of Clear Aligners Study Club, and an active member of the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Clear Aligners, and the Massachusetts American Alliance for Independent Dentists.
