Jim’s journey began with what seemed like a small concern — a single crown that had open margins and recurrent decay. But during his evaluation, we discovered a bigger picture: failing crowns and fillings, recurrent caries, bite trauma from crowding, and tooth size discrepancies in his upper arch that caused spacing and imbalance. He also disliked the “fake” appearance of his old restorations.

At our Wellesley Smile Design Clinic — the first certified Digital Smile Design Clinic in the U.S. — we created a plan that addressed both health and esthetics. We began with caries control and replacement of failing restorations, then used Digital Smile Design with a smile “test drive” mock-up to preview his ideal outcome. After professional whitening with an at-home maintenance kit, we completed a full rehabilitation: porcelain layered crowns and veneers on all of his upper teeth, and porcelain crowns/veneer-lays on all of his lower posterior teeth. This combination restored his bite, improved proportions, and harmonized color for a natural look. His treatment was finalized with custom clear retainers (with duplicate sets) to protect against relapse and preserve his bite long-term.

In just seven months, Jim’s smile was completely transformed — from failing, artificial-looking dentistry to a healthy, functional, and naturally radiant result.
