Mary, a young nurse in her 20s, came to our Wellesley clinic feeling disappointed and self-conscious about her smile. Years of grinding had left her teeth small and worn, making it difficult to show enough teeth when she smiled. As a healthcare professional, Mary knew the value of confidence in her appearance — but she felt her smile held her back. She had to make a “huge effort” to show her teeth, and despite her best efforts, her smile appeared deficient in size and display. Our diagnostics revealed the underlying causes: severe wear from chronic bruxism and a growth deficiency in her upper jaw’s anterior region.

At our Wellesley Smile Design Clinic — the first certified Digital Smile Design Clinic in the U.S. — we carefully camouflaged her skeletal deficiency with a custom, facially guided design to restore balance, size, and harmony.

Her treatment included Airflow hygiene therapy, professional whitening for her lower arch, and twelve porcelain restorations (a combination of veneers and veneer-lays) on her upper teeth to rebuild length, improve proportions, and restore function by opening her vertical dimension.

For long-term protection, we delivered a lab-fabricated upper occlusal guard and lower clear retainer. To support her wellness and reduce tension from bruxism, Mary also receives periodic TMJ neuromodulator therapy to relax her masseter muscles and protect her restorations.
